When the chainsaw cut into the tree trunk, the scent of cedar instantly filled the air, and the powerful sound of the machinery, along with the visual spectacle, was vividly etched in my memory.

After making the initial cuts, a block was inserted between them, and then struck with an axe to widen the opening. This process was continued until the cut reached the heart of the tree, enabling it to fall.

Under the belief that "being able to accurately fell a tree in the direction you choose makes you a master," Mr. Hashimoto, whose gentle smile had been so comforting during our conversation, displayed the serious expression of a true professional.
